This is my story.

Growing up in Singapore, I had my fair share of struggles with body image. Back then, the government in Singapore implemented a mandated overweight club in all schools, and any child deemed overweight by BMI standards had to be enrolled in an extra-curricular club called TAF (Trim and Fit) club. Yup, that was me!

Kids being kids… of course it was reversed to be called the fat club.

Besides having to run laps in the morning before school and at recess, we also had our weight taken and announced in front of our entire cohort. It was embarrassing then, and I remember hiding in the bathrooms to avoid being called out.

As a migrant kid in an all-girls school, I always felt like an outsider trying to fit in.

In my teenage years, I kept an incredibly low self esteem and was stuck in a dark place of my life until I had an opportunity to move to the States for college placement.

It was then that I started to develop my own identity and built new-found confidence, away from the surroundings that used to define me.

It felt like a fresh start.

I first got into strength training as an athlete training in Strongman - where I later became a coach as I love the idea of helping others like me find the strongest version of themselves.

Why Strength Training?

Strength training has changed me both mentally and physically - training for sports like strongmen and powerlifting, it is incredibly empowering to focus on performance metrics and what our bodies can do rather than focus on what it looks like and how it compares to societal standards.

Today, it is my passion and goal to introduce more women to this thought process and to start lifting weights because I believe strongly in its benefits. And believe me, if you’re chasing aesthetics, that will come as well.

In my 5 years of training in the fields of Strongman & Powerlifting, I have made my fair share of mistakes and learnt a lot through this journey.

I wish to impart my knowledge in this field as a coach to help others achieve their fullest potential through progressive overload and with the right lifting techniques.
